My Canon Story
Fredrick Ochieng is a seasoned documentary photographer based in Kenya, renowned for his passion for storytelling and the transformative power of visual arts. His journey began at the age of 9, when he crafted his first camera from clay—a spark that ignited a lifelong commitment to photography. Today, Fredrick is a Canon Certified Trainer, dedicated to sharing his expertise with aspiring photographers across Africa.
Fredrick’s impactful work gained international recognition when he contributed to the UN Habitat Millennium Development Goals book in 2006, a testament to his belief in photography as a tool for social change. In 2022, his dedication was celebrated when he was named Canon North and Central Africa's Trainer of the Year, solidifying his role as a leader in advancing the craft of photography across the continent.
With a keen interest in Events, Wildlife, and Lifestyle Photography, Fredrick is also the founder of SEMA Ochieng Pictures Limited, where he leads the "Stories from Our Cities" film master workshop. This initiative equips young filmmakers with the skills to document community narratives, tackling issues such as democratic freedoms, civic space, and sustainable development goals.
Fredrick continues to inspire a new generation of visual storytellers, using his lens to capture the beauty and complexity of life while fostering creativity and social impact.
