HOW TO SET UP THE CANON EOS R1 FOR SPORTS AND ACTION PHOTOGRAPHY

The Canon EOS R1 is designed to help professional photographers capture decisive moments with speed and confidence. Setting it up correctly ensures you get the most from its powerful autofocus, high-speed shooting, and connectivity features.

Start by inserting two CFexpress Type B cards and configuring the camera to record to both cards simultaneously. This creates an instant backup, which is standard practice for professional sports and agency photographers.

Next, pair the EOS R1 with a fast RF telephoto lens, such as the RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM, and enable both lens and in-body image stabilization for maximum stability.

For fast-moving subjects, select High-Speed Continuous shooting with the electronic shutter to unlock up to 40 frames per second. Activate subject detection and tracking, then choose People, Animals, or Vehicles depending on your subject.

If you need to transmit images directly from the field, use the built-in Ethernet port to connect to an FTP server for rapid file delivery.

Finally, customize key buttons so you can switch autofocus modes and drive settings instantly as conditions change.
